KIA Champ Into The Arena: Kwa-Zulu Natal Winners Crowned
6 May 2013, Johannesburg– Kwa-Zulu Natal lived up to expectations this weekend at the Kia Champ into the Arena amateur five-a-side football tournament with two days of exceptional talent. Mobitel emerged as the winners of the regional qualifiers at Crusaders Sports Club, Durban North.
Mobitel went head to head with runners-up Mzansi Legends in a tightly contested match, with both teams now progressing to the National Finals at Randburg Sports Club in Johannesburg on 2 June 2013. Both teams will compete against Cape Town representatives Untouchables FC and Fast Five along with the Gauteng finalists who will be crowned on 18 – 19 May 2013.
“I am really impressed with the level of maturity and composure displayed by the Kwa-Zulu Natal teams today. The tournament lived up to its expectations with an abundance of talent on display”, said the excited Kia Champ into the Arena ambassador, Brian Baloyi. As the official Kia Champ into the Arena ambassador, Baloyi has been on a quest to select a team onTwitter to compete against the Kia Celebrity Team as a curtain raiser match for the final on 2 June 2013. “We are very excited about winning the Kwa-zulu Natal tournament and to be in a position to represent the province at the National Finals,” said the ecstatic Kerwyn Jackson, captain of the winning team.
A total of 32 teams participated in the Kwa-Zulu Natal qualifiers, with the 3rd and 4thplace play-offs battled out by Young Stars and Spirit Coolers for the bronze medal. Young Stars reigned victorious. The Kia Champ into the Arena tournament Director, Brandon Ehlers; “Kia’s primary objective of the tournament is to give South African football hopefuls a chance to make an impact on a national and global level through this exciting initiative.”
The world finals of the Kia Champ into the Arena tournament will consist of 16 winners from around the globe, and will be staged in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on
24 – 27 June 2013 in conjunction with the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013.
