KIA reaffirms its support of the annual South African Music Awards
KIA Motors South Africa this week reaffirmed its support of the annual South African Music Awards as its official vehicle partner, and continues its sponsorship of the KIA Record of the Year award in 2015. Organised by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA), the nominees for the annual South African Music Awards were announced in Johannesburg yesterday, 12 March 2015, with the gala awards evening scheduled for Sunday, 19 April 2015, at the Sun City Superbowl outside Rustenburg in the North West Province.
XXI represents the number 21 in Roman numerals – and is the number of years the South African Music Awards have been a fixture on the local entertainment scene. Twenty-one also represents change and the transition from childhood to adulthood, marking a point where the influence of the legacy that came before creates the legends of tomorrow.
The Annual South African Music Awards is doing just that: learning from the past to inform a bright new future. As a single symbol, the XXI encompasses the notion of “Legacy to Future”, with the #XXI campaign having already attracted an enthusiastic response on Instagram, with celebs and ordinary people posting their nostalgic memories of when they were 21 and nominating others to do the same.
According to Refiloe Ramogase, the newly elected chairperson of the South African Music Awards, these intimate snapshots of days past confirm that being XXI is milestone that strikes a chord with everyone. “The South African Music Awards turn XXI – the very same age as our cherished post-emancipated rainbow nation, South Africa” he says.
“This milestone creates the opportunity for reflection on where the local music industry is as whole and how far our legacy has come, while shining a bold spotlight on where music is headed in this country. The awards themselves have a solid and respected heritage, and are looking to the future to build on this proud legacy with a renewed youthful vibrancy.”
Adding some Soul to the South African Music Awards
For the fourth consecutive year, KIA will be the official vehicle partner of the South African Music Awards. The latest KIA Soul, launched in South Africa in November last year, appeals to the young and young-at-heart. Thanks to its funky exterior styling and upmarket interior, with many unique features such as floating tweeters located above the air vents, and mood lighting – with music mode – positioned around the speakers in the front doors, it’s the perfect partner for the South African Music Awards, which will see the Soul utilized as the official mode of transport for nominees and VIP guests to and from the gala event on 19 April 2015.
KIA will also continue its sponsorship of the “KIA Record of the Year” award, which will this year, for the first time, be announced live on SABC1 during the popular Live Amp at 21:00 tonight. The KIA Record of the Year is the one category of the South African Music Awards that allows the public to vote for the winner. The nominees are made up of the songs that received the highest number of plays across South Africa between 1 December 2013 and 30 November 2014. A unique SMS code is attached to each of the nominees, with music lovers throughout South Africa determining who wins the ultimate accolade on 19 April 2015.
“As a showcase for our country’s amazing musical talents and a peerless platform for recognition of outstanding achievements, our partnership with the annual South African Music Awards is a perfect match,” says David Sieff, Marketing Director at KIA Motors South Africa. “We are proud to continue our association with the awards as its official vehicle partner, and as sponsor of the ‘KIA Record of the Year’ award.”
